Background

Y-PEER Puntland is embarking on implementing new approaches to sustainable development. Today’s development challenges are getting increasingly complex and interconnected. Often, they cannot be addressed by traditional sector approaches. Innovative approaches and solutions are thus called for, and the organization is starting work differently.

 

Y-PEER Puntland will be conducting training sessions on critical thinking, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship that has been developed in response to the identified needs and gaps in the Somali Youth. The training combined didactic presentations, learning activities with working sessions, development of groups, and an interactive approach built on participants’ experiences, knowledge, and skills. The participants will be taught and mentored through hands-on approach to building participants’ capacity to reflect critically on their current practices and work on alternative strategies to develop solutions to their community challenges. At the end of the training startups to be formed and pitched their ideas to a group of judges.

 

Y-PEER Puntland will also strengthen the employability skills for the Somalia Youth. A broad range of topics are covered in this training among them are; CV writing, Decision Making, Creative/Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Negotiation Skills, Interpersonal Relationship, Self-Awareness, Job search, Communication skills, Job interview, Time management, Anticipating challenges, and Rights and responsibly of an employee.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Train the selected participants on bootcamp and business incubation and manage a higher stander of transferring knowledge to the trainees during the class session.
  • Coordinate and provide support on bootcamp incubation strategy/action plan, including formulation, design, planning and implementation;
  • Develops and executes a mentoring strategy for participants on discovering and securing new startups.
  • Develops business plan templates, strategies by evaluating risks and potentials.
  • Evaluates, determines, and realizes monthly business growth goals for established small enterprises/cooperatives in Bossaso, Buhodle and Galdogob.
  • Assist trainees to create a business groups that is registered with the ministry of commerce to receive future grants.
  • Train the participants on marketing, business management, and monitoring the progress of the project as per the work plan .
  • Reporting the progress of the activities and program-related events when arise.
  • Quality control as to the deliverables and outputs in the project to conducting site visits /assurance activities.
  • Drafting the progress reports of the project
  • Advise all project counterparts on applicable administrative procedures and ensures their proper implementation;
  • Maintain project correspondence and communication and report back to the project manager.

Required Skills and Experience

  • University degree in the business, social, economic or related fields;
  • At least 3 years of work experience in public or private sector;
  • Experience in developing startups;
  • Experience with international development organizations would be an advantage;
  • Experience of cooperation and interaction with local stakeholders would be an advantage;
  • Excellent command of English and Somali.
